THE THREADS OF TIME THE FABRIC OF HISTORY, Profiles of African American Dressmakers and Designers from 1850 to the Present is a book that has been needed for some time. It fills the gap that exists in the general public’s mind about what African American designers and dressmakers did before l960. Most people think that African American designers, such as Patrick Kelly, Stephen Burrows and Willi Smith sprung up totally out of the air in the l960’s and the 1970’s.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Rosemary E. Reed Miller, is a writer and the owner of the community-focused, and trendy store, Toast and Strawberries, located in the Dupont Circle area in Washington, DC. She is a graduate of Temple University, majoring in history and lives in Washington, DC. She is an adjunct professor of fashion merchandising at Prince Georges Community College and at Howard University.

Over the years, government agencies, schools and social groups have asked her to produce fashion shows.

To add interest during Black History, she researched and profiled African American dressmakers and designers who touch history, i.e. Elizabeth Keckley, who did designs for Mrs. Lincoln, and Ann Lowe who did the debutante and wedding dress for Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. "I assume if I owned a restaurant that I would have written a book about African American chefs," said Rosemary. "These stories in THE THREADS OF TIME, THE FABRIC OF HISTORY are informative and inspiring for everyone, young and old, all nationalities. Truly American struggles, but relevant for all."

REVIEW:
"I can't remember when I met Zelda Wynn, but she did my wedding suit in 1948! I sew a little, so I really appreciated her fine detail and tailoring work. I still have two of her wonderful dresses. I can't bear to give them up. I donated another dress to Lois Alexander, when she was starting the Black Fashion Museum. I am pleased that Zelda is being featured with the other fabulous ladies in THE THREADS OF TIME, THE FABRIC OF HISTORY."
